Not everyone reading this wants to buy a $2,000 machine. Some people just want great beans showing up on a schedule. Here's how the major subscription services actually differ.
This page contains affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no additional fee charged by Vigilant Coffee. This does not affect how we evaluate or describe products.
We selected services with an established track record, a clear roasting/sourcing story, and a straightforward subscription model, not the ones paying the highest affiliate commission.
Each service below gets a Vigilant Score out of 10, weighted toward curation & quality (35%), personalization & flexibility (25%), value (20%), and transparency & sourcing (20%). These are different criteria than our physical-gear guides use, on purpose, a subscription service is an ongoing relationship, not a spec sheet. It's our editorial opinion, not a lab test, so treat it as a starting point for your own research. Full breakdowns are in the evidence trail further down this page.
We compared published manufacturer specifications, warranty documentation, parts and service availability, retailer information, and recurring owner and professional feedback available as of August 2026. We did not purchase or laboratory-test every product listed. Vigilant Scores represent our editorial assessment for the stated use case, not a universal or hands-on test winner, using criteria specific to subscription services rather than the physical-gear criteria used elsewhere on this site.
Researched and written by the Vigilant Coffee editorial team. Reviewed and fact-checked: August 2026. Research basis: manufacturer documentation, published warranty terms, official program information, and cited third-party sources. Hands-on testing: not conducted unless specifically stated.

Pricing is approximate and shifts with promotions, confirm current pricing on each provider's site.

Trade's onboarding quiz (roast level, brew method, flavor preferences) matches you to beans from its network of 55+ U.S. roasters and 450+ individual coffees, rather than roasting in-house, the closest thing to "let an algorithm find your roaster" in this category.

Each shipment is a single-origin coffee from one country, with tasting notes and a bit of context about the growing region, a genuinely different model from most subscriptions, which blend or rotate roasts more randomly.

Built around Pacific Northwest small roasters, with sampler boxes and add-ons (chocolate, tasting kits) that make it a stronger gift option than a plain bag-of-beans subscription.

An Atlanta-based direct roaster with one of the largest single-origin catalogs in this category, sourced from volcanic-soil growing regions, sold both à la carte and as a subscription.

Emphasizes direct-trade sourcing and asks for taste feedback on early shipments to fine-tune future boxes, a good fit for someone who wants to know exactly where their coffee came from.
Subscription pricing, shipment frequency, and cancellation policies vary by provider and change over time. Confirm current terms directly on each provider's site before subscribing.
| Service | Bag Size | Typical Price/Bag | Shipping | Frequency Options | Skip/Pause/Cancel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trade Coffee | 10.9 oz standard | $16–$22 | Free on most plans; prepaid bundles reduce cost further | Every 1–6 weeks | Easy, via dashboard, anytime |
| Atlas Coffee Club | 6, 12, or 24 oz | $9–$28 | ~$5 flat fee | Every 1–10 weeks after first shipment | Easy, via member portal |
| Bean Box | 12 oz standard (sampler option: four 1.8oz bags) | $16–$21 | Free on subscription plans | Weekly to every 6 weeks | Easy, via account portal |
All three roast to order and ship within about 24–48 hours of roasting, arrival is typically 2–7 days depending on your distance from the roaster. All three offer whole bean or ground selection, and all three support gift subscriptions. Trade and Atlas both ship U.S. only (Atlas explicitly includes Canada on some plans); Bean Box ships within the U.S. Volcanica and Driftaway sell coffee directly rather than running comparable structured subscription plans, we didn't have consistent enough logistics data on those two to include them in this table honestly, check their sites directly for current terms.
One thing worth knowing before you subscribe to any of these: introductory-order pricing (first bag discounts, free trial bags) reverts to standard pricing starting with your second shipment. Budget for the standard price, not the offer that got you in the door.
